No holes, but lots of brains
Some grinding jobs are challenging even to the most experienced grinding machine manufacturers. For example, how do you clamp a small profile insert that is pretty small and doesn’t have any holes? “Not an easy task we needed to solve,” said Haas applications engineer Frédéric Brenat, “since the customer wanted to completely grind the profile insert on every side, and do so in a full-sequence process.” The challenge was solved with a combination of brains and force: the profile insert was clamped between two opposing, hydraulically-actuated pins, allowing it to easily be machined on all sides with the right grinding wheels.
You could call it a 360-degree solution – and typical Haas. “With this new yoke clamp, we can full-sequence machine concave or convex contours on workpieces without a hole in a single clamping,” said the visibly satisfied hardcore engineer Thomas Bader. “At Haas it is always our goal to offer the entire economical grinding process from one source.” The new clamp can be used in every Haas grinding machine. Where before two grinding machines were used (a peripheral and a profile grinding machine), now you only need one Multigrind® universal grinding machine from Haas.
